About Me

I am a Brisbane based maker. I have been interested in furniture design and making for more than 40 years and have more recently discovered the joy and art of chair making. I started making Windsor chairs under the watchful eye of Jon Grant in Tasmania. In a world that appears to be forever speeding up there is immense satisfaction to be gained from slowing things down and acquainting oneself with old-style tools used in chair making. There is also, I think, a profound mental challenge of creating a utilitarian object that is a chair - in getting the angles of the legs and spindles right to create something practical and of timeless beauty that will far outlast its creator (hopefully!). Growing up in Tasmania, it is hard for me to go past using beautiful Tasmanian timber in what I create. It is humbling to use timber that in some cases grew for hundreds of years before being repurposed by us.
